The Opportunity

We are currently looking to add an associate hydrogeologist to support our Supply & Hydrogeology team in Florida.

Black & Veatch is seeking a motivated, self-reliant, and detailed oriented person to join our team. This position will consist of an approximate mix of field and office assignments. There is also the potential for field assignments outside of their home office locality. While this role is focused on work located in Florida, this role also includes opportunities to support the team nationally. This person will support and oversee tasks such as water supply evaluations, installation of groundwater production wells, well testing and analysis, injection wells, quantitative hydrogeology and other tasks associated with hydrogeology and geology. This individual will also be responsible for evaluating data in the field and in the office, preparing well permit applications, generating technical specifications and bid documents, developing schedules and budgets, and report preparation. This position provides the potential for growth and development in technical experience, project task management, and presentation skills.   

The Team

Black & Veatch’s Water Supply & Hydrogeology group helps clients achieve their goals for a reliable, sufficient, and sustainable water supply. We provide source water management, water quality evaluations, well rehabilitation, wellfield optimization, conceptual and numerical groundwater modeling, and hydrogeologic solutions that leverage assets and enhance system operability. Our team also supports clients focused on civil engineering applications, as well as traditional and alternative energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strong organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, graphical) 
  • Work independently on tasks and projects with limited supervision 
  • Adherence to internal company health and safety and other processes and policies 
  • Provide professional hydrogeological support for a wide range of domestic and potentially international projects 
  • Understand federal, state, and local regulations and their applications 
  • Support proposal, work plan, and report deliverables 
  • Work with project technical leads, project managers, and delivery teams to ensure that work products meet client needs 
  • Evaluate and interpret collected geologic and hydrogeologic data  
  • Prepare graphical and tabular data summaries 
  • Presentation preparation to support findings for clients and technical professionals 
  • Oversight of subcontractors and adherence to project specifications and designs

Preferred Qualifications

    • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in the field of hydrogeology, geology, geosystems engineering or environmental geology 
    • Field experience on projects such as drilling, aquifer testing and analysis, water quality sampling and evaluation 
    • Subsurface geologic and hydrogeologic evaluations, hydrogeologic conceptualization and aquifer characterization 
    • Interpolation of hydrogeologic, hydrostratigraphic, and water quality data  
    • Working proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS or equivalent software 
    • Functional understanding of Python or other programming languages 
    • Experience coordinating and overseeing field staff, subcontractors, and project tasks 
    • Strong communication skills, technical writing abilities 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Science or Environmental Science required. Minimum of 1 year of experience in the field of geology, hydrogeology, environmental or geosystems engineering or equivalent. 

Certifications

  • Professional l icensure track toward PE, PG, or equivalent

  • HAZWOPER and/or MSHA safety certifications preferred (and/or able to obtain)

Work Environment/Schedule

  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. 
  • Normal office environment with a hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote  
  • Some employees are subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 30 degrees for periods of more than one hour), extreme heat (temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour), hazards (electrical currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposures to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation), and oils. Some employees are required to use respiratory systems as a result of fumes, mists, gases, or to comply with governmental regulatory requirements. All positions require the following physical abilities: talking, fingering, grasping, hearing, keyboard input, seeing, and writing. All positions require the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. 
  • Work involves sitting most of the time. Some positions require the following physical abilities: reaching, climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, walking, standing, pulling, lifting, pushing, carrying, and driving. Some positions require the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
